Fiestas Patrias Parade winds through downtown

HOUSTON

Fiestas Patrias marks the anniversary of Mexico's independence from Spain. Mexican independence day is Sunday.

Thousands of Houstonians lined downtown streets and watched the parade as it traveled from Texas at Hamilton to Preston at Crawford, just outside Minute Maid Park.

Eyewitness News reporter Erik Barajas and his children were riding in the parade.

Spectators cheered and waved flags as they watched traditional Mexican dances and listened to Mexican music. The parade culminated in the crowning of Miss Fiestas Patrias.
