Gas station janitor accused of beating customer with broomstick

HOUSTON

Court documents state on November 14, 2011 the victim says he went to the food store at a gas station in the 3000 block of Elgin in the Third Ward area and grabbed two bags of Cheez-Its and gave them to a homeless woman in the store. He says the woman exited the store and he went to the cash register to pay for the items.

The victim says the store janitor, Robert Lee Brewster, then confronted the victim, accusing him of stealing the Cheez-Its. According to court documents, Brewster then grabbed a wooden broomstick and started hitting the man on his head and face. The man fell to the ground and was later transported to the hospital to be treated for open wounds to his head and forehead.

Police say the man picked Brewster out of a photo array.

Brewster, 62, is charged with aggravated assault. Bond has been set at $30,000.

Court documents state Brewster was convicted of delivery of cocaine back in 1989.
