Some very smart Pasadena High School students may not get to represent the USA and test their intelligence against the world.

Alondra Serna, Pedro Reyes and Eduardo Aleman are an academic team chosen to represent America in the "World Scholar's Cup" in Thailand this month. Pasadena ISD says it researched the area and found it unsafe, so they will not allow the kids to go. The students are currently the number one seeded team in the competition.

"This is basically just a way to show the world America isn't as poor, as poor in its education system as everyone perceives it to be," Reyes said.

The students will meet with the Pasadena ISD superintendent Tuesday to discuss their problem. If they do get approval, the students still need to raise $10,000 for airfare.
