HISD seeking refund from meat supplier over 'pink slime'

HISD is demanding one of its meat suppliers give the district a refund of more than half a million dollars. The problem is with the hamburger patties made by Don Lee Farms.

The district bought 14,000 cases of it, and served nearly all of it. A recent audit revealed the patties were made with lean finely textured meat, more commonly known as pink slime.

HISD says its bid specifications clearly state that it doesn't accept any meat with fillers.

Don Lee Farms didn't return our calls about this breach of contract claim and demand for a refund.
