Police say they are investigating an officer-involved shooting in north Houston.

The shooting happened around 5:45pm Monday at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Greens Road, where a METRO officer was working a second job as a security guard, according to police.

Police say the officer smelled marijuana on a suspect and confronted him about it, but the suspect took off. As the officer chased the suspect, the suspect reached into his waistband, pulled out a gun and pointed it behind him as he kept running. The officer then shot the suspect in the back.

The suspect was wounded but treated at the scene by Houston Fire Department emergency responders. He was conscious and breathing.
