Police said the father and son were each riding a motorcycle northbound on Texas 288. They are from the Angleton area and were headed toward Houston.
The pair each pulled over onto the shoulder on Highway 288 near Orem. That's when police said a vehicle veered onto the shoulder and struck the father.
The man died at the scene. His son was not physically injured.
The driver of the car stayed at the scene and was interviewed by police. There is no word on whether charges will be filed.
All northbound lanes on Highway 288 from Almeda Genoa to Orem were closed for several hours while crews investigated and then cleared the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. No names have been released.
