Police: Fight over singing ends in fatal shooting

Police say a karaoke song lead to a deadly shooting overnight.

Homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a man at a Mexican restaurant during karaoke night.

It happened inside a taqueria on Hillcroft near Sands Point around 2am. Police say the victim was a patron who got into an altercation with another man over his song choice called "Somos Mas Americanos" (We Are More American). After the victim finished his song, he stepped off the stage and went back to his table with friends. Police say the argument escalated with one man pulling out a pistol and shooting the other in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are talking to several eyewitnesses who were inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting. The gunman and his friends are said to have fled in a red Chevy pickup truck.

Two female friends of the suspect also took off. Police say they were seen leaving in a green Nissan Pathfinder. Both vehicles were last seen driving north on Hillcroft.

The identity of the 30-year-old victim is pending notification to his family members.
