A SWAT scene Saturday in southwest Houston ended with officers throwing tear gas to force the suspect to surrender.

It happened around 2pm at Cambridge Village Apartments in the 12900 block of South Post Oak Road.

According to the Houston Police Department, 34-year-old Lamarcus Christmas barricaded himself in his home after Missouri City police showed up with a warrant. Officials said Christmas' former girlfriend had filed a complaint accusing him of threatening her.

Christmas spoke briefly with police before locking himself inside his apartment. He told them he was armed and intended to hurt himself, authorities said.

After about three hours, officers threw tear gas into the apartment unit and were able to get Christmas outside. He surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody.

No one was in the apartment with him.
