At least 1 killed in multiple-vehicle wreck on Highway 290 in northwest Houston

HOUSTON

Police say the male driver of a Ford Taurus was heading inbound shortly after 3pm at a high rate of speed, attempted to change lanes and struck an older model Dodge pickup truck. The Ford then lost control, slid across the freeway an struck a second Dodge pickup truck that was stopped because of traffic. That second pickup then collided with another truck. Debris also struck a car.

The impact of the wreck was so hard that it split the steel axle of the truck.

The driver of the Taurus died at the scene, and the driver of the second Dodge pickup was taken to a Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The victim, Edward Pachar, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deadly wreck had Highway 290 inbound shut down at Mangum for a couple of hours, backing up traffic almost to the Beltway.
