Patrick Simmons is a suspect in a bank robbery where a Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot. He was named Houston FBI's Most Wanted Fugitive on Thursday.
According to officials, Simmons turned himself in to authorities around 5:30pm Sunday. He surrendered at the FBI Houston office to bank robbery task force members.
The FBI says the 27-year-old and a crew of eight other men were heavily armed when they targeted banks, usually inside grocery stores. They are accused of robbing at least eight banks dating back to August 2010.
The targets were scattered throughout the area, officials said. During one, HCSO Sgt. /*Michael Ellison*/ was shot.
He's been wanted for more than a month, and his picture now towers over three major freeways.
Those believed to be part of Simmons' crew were arrested on the Gulf Freeway right after an attempted bank robbery in mid-September. Since then, they've been indicted and are in custody.
