Dakoda Lee Clawson, 19, is charged with injury to a child. According to court documents, Clawson was at home alone with the child on November 12 when the incident happened. The child suffered head injuries and a broken clavicle, and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Investigators say Clawson initially told them he was attempting to burp the child after a feeding and the child flung himself backwards, falling to the floor and causing the injuries. Clawson says he immediately called 911 and began CPR.
Through an investigation, police were able to determine that the injuries to the child were likely due to severe shaking.
In a second interview, Clawson again said the child fell from his lap, however a couple days later, investigators say Clawson called them. According to court documents, he told them that the baby did fall from his lap after a feeding and began to cry. But Clawson went on to say that he picked up the child and began to shake him until he stopped crying, and it was then that he realized the child went limp.
He told investigators that he lied about what happened because he was afraid the child's mother, who is his girlfriend, would find out.
Bail has been set at $150,000
