The Liberty Co. Sheriff's Office says at around 1:45pm Monday, deputies responded to a call of numerous dogs abandoned at a residence on CR 310 between Cleveland and Tarkington Prairie. Deputies say approximately 20 dogs, mostly pit bulls, were emaciated and without food or water. One dog which had been tied very close and tight to a tree had been attacked by the other dogs.
Some animals were found deceased, still inside the steel cages they were kept in, according to deputies. Others were living in deplorable conditions inside of crates or cages and unable to escape their own waste.
Deputies contacted the SPCA, who took possession of the surviving animals.
The property owner, Amy LaBuff, was taken into custody and faces cruelty to animal charges. She was transported to the Liberty County Jail where she remains pending bond.
