According to the Pearland Police Department, the unidentified victim reported around 12:30pm that he had been carjacked in Houston near Westheimer, placed in the trunk of his own vehicle and driven to the Wal-Mart parking lot in the 10500 block of W. Broadway in Pearland.
The victim managed to escape and get to a nearby Starbucks, where he called 9-1-1.
Pearland officers quickly located the victim's silver Toyota Camry as the suspect was trying to flee the area on Texas 288.
Police tried to make a traffic stop on 288, but officials said the suspect sped away.
The suspect stopped the vehicle in the area of Almeda Genoa and 288 where he then fled on foot.
The Houston Police Department's Fox helicopter, ground units and K-9's responded to the area and tracked the suspect to the 2600 block of Skyview Ridge in Houston. The suspect -- identified as Demarcus Payton -- was taken into custody by HPD and charges are pending.
