It happened around 4:30pm. Investigators say the Conroe police officer was chasing a suspect, identified as Raythell Lee Fields III, when Fields' vehicle came to a stop.
As the officer was out of his vehicle, Fields reportedly threw his vehicle into reverse and slammed into the officer's squad car. The officer then fired several shots at the vehicle Fields was driving.
Fields drove off and the chase was back on. Police say it lasted until Fields got to the 100 block of Morgan Street, where he stopped and was arrested without incident.
Fields is charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle. The officer will be placed on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation.
