The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said Monday that the $3.8 million project, using federal disaster grants, should be finished by October. River rock and/or crushed limestone will be spread over 178 public acres.
TPWD previously worked to restore oyster beds near San Leon and on Middle Reef in East Bay.
Ike hit Galveston on Sept. 13, 2008, leaving half of the oyster reefs in Galveston Bay and about 80 percent in East Bay covered in sediment from the storm surge.
The agency says East Bay, which has been closed to commercial oyster fishing for two years, will reopen Nov. 1.
