Police say the two victims, who are friends, were standing in front of a home when at least four unidentified black males drove by in two vehicles and fired shots. One of the victims, an off-duty HISD officer, who was not in uniform, suffered a gunshot wound to his left wrist. The second victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and shoulder and is in critical condition at a local hospital.
An HISD spokesperson declined to disclose the HISD officer's name, but he has been with their police force since September 2005.
The motive for the shooting is unknown. The suspects are described only as at least four black males, last seen driving in a dark-colored Saturn sedan and a second light-colored sedan of unknown make and model.
