Suspect charged in deadly jewelry store robbery
HOUSTON
Anhony Parks, 23, is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court. He was arrested Thursday without incident. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Parks is accused of killing 52-year-old Mehmood Ghaznavi during a Tuesday night robbery at his east Houston business, Java Gold Jewelry at 5500 Yale. Ghaznavi was struck in the chest by a bullet during a shootout with the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ghaznavi had purchased a gun after he was targeted last year during another violent robbery, during which three suspects pistol whipped him while demanding cash.
Parks was convicted of misdemeanor theft in 2008.
