Get budget friendly makeup for the summer

HOUSTON

How about some beauty products for a dollar? One of Houston's most sought-after makeup artists has tried and tested budget-friendly products that have been proven to work time and time again.

When it comes to beauty products, whatever your budget is, makeup artist Darcie Teasley is known for making it work.

"Oh my gosh, it's on sale for $6.59. It's usually $9 to $10 anywhere else," she said.

So we challenged her to find some of her favorite beauty buys for the summer on a tight budget.

Beauty buy number one: foundation.

"This Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse is a light whipped formula that will match any skin tone, blend very easily, easily used. And then there is also a little higher pigmented foundation by Maybelline. It's called Fit, and both of these are under six bucks," Teasley said.

For the summer, Teasley says you can thin your foundation out with a moisturizer. That way, you don't get that cakey look.

For a sun glowed look without any harmful rays, she recommends a bronzer.

"Ok, so the next thing we're going to use is our Fit Bronzer and it does come with a brush. It's $4.05, which is such a great price," she said.

The next beauty buy: blush for one dollar by E.L.F. Cosmetics. Our expert says they are perfect for summer and not high in pigment.

"I always put blush on the apple of the cheek and the other side. So we just have a little pop of color," Teasley said.

Next up, Teasley focuses on the eyes with Maybelline's Modern Metallics, a great shimmery eye shadow for summer.

"This was $4.19, which is a really great price," she said.

She also likes Cover Girl Liqua Lash Liner for $6.37 and Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara for $6.59. She says these products are fail proof.

And finally, it's all about the lips. Her favorite summer lip gloss is Maybelline Shine Sensational Lipgloss for $4.04.

"I chose a really neutral color; great for that sun-kissed glow," she said.

We purchased all our products at Kroger, including a concealer to complete our look. Our eight products totaled just under $38.
