HISD will not raise property taxes to make up budget deficit

HOUSTON The superintendent presented his budget to trustees Monday and he did not propose a tax increase. In the past, the district had hinted a tax hike was a possibility since its set to lose millions of dollars in state funding, but the budget that trustees are set to approve on Thursday keeps the tax rate the same.

The board won't vote to set the tax rate until September at the earliest since that's when the Harris County tax rolls could be finalized.
