An HCSO deputy had pulled over a car on traffic violations. They were in the right emergency lane of the Eastex Fwy. northbound.
A second unit pulled behind them and was blocking the right lane.
That is when a man driving a dark-colored car came down the freeway and slammed into the back of the deputy's vehicle, shoving it into the other patrol car.
The first deputy was trapped inside his unit and had to be rescued.
He was transported to an area hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.
The other deputy jumped out of the way and was not injured.
The driver of the dark-colored car was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious condition. It is unknown what caused the accident.
