According to Houston police, the victim's fiance was at his apartment on Westbranch at Rodeo Square around midnight Friday when she heard a noise, went outside and found him stumbling down the sidewalk.
He had been shot an unknown number of times.
Police said she put him in her car and was going to take him to the hospital, but an ambulance arrived as they were leaving the parking lot.
The man was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition and is expected to recover.
