Detective Ron McGullion with the Tomball Police Department said, "The victim was complaining of some injuries that she had sustained. She told Detective Chambers who, in essence, had administered those injuries to her."
Tomball police say Erik Medrano, 23, was arrested for molesting that little girl and giving her a sexually transmitted disease. According to court documents, that attack happened inside a motel room where police say Medrano was watching the victim and her younger sibling. Medrano was dating the child's mother when that attack allegedly happened back in February.
"The mother, who was with the child at the time, apparently was out for a while and had left them in the care of the suspect," Det. McGullion said.
What's even more disturbing, police say Medrano passed the herpes virus to the child. They say they're now trying to determine if the man touched any other children.
Det. McGullion said, "There is a possibility that there is another child that may have and that's where some additional investigation is going on."
Erik Medrano is charged with super aggravated assault of a child. It carries a possible life sentence without parole. The charge of super aggravated sexual assault of a child was enacted in Texas in 2007. Medrano has a prior conviction for aggravated assault in 2008.
Medrano's bond was set at $100,000. If convicted, he faces from 25 years to life in prison. This story was brought to you through our partnership with Houston Community Newspapers. You can read more about it in the Conroe Courier.
