Man charged in fatal shooting of security guard

HOUSTON

Jose Rodrigo Romero, 43, is charged with murder in the 174th State District Court. Police say patrol officers responded to a shooting call at a sports bar at 8104 West Tidwell about 9pm on May 1 and found the security guard lying on the sidewalk in front of the bar. The victim, Carlos Melendez-Solis, 46, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation identified Romero as the suspect in the shooting. According to witnesses, Romero refused to be searched by Melendez-Solis, who was a security guard at the sports bar. Romero shot Melendez-Solis multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Investigators arrested Romero on Tuesday without incident.
