Houston police say two men were walking around the parking lot, looking into cars. As they started to break into a vehicle, the owner walked out of the club and saw them, officials said.
According to investigators, the owner of the vehicle started running toward them and one of the suspects pulled out a gun, shooting him in the stomach.
A security guard heard the gunfire and saw the suspects running away. Police said he yelled at them, but they started shooting at him.
Officials said the security guard returned fire, but no one was hit in the shootout.
The security guard told investigators the suspects fled in a white Chevrolet Impala.
The shooting victim was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious but stable condition. He is expected to recover.
