A grand jury has declined to indict an Austin police officer who fatally shot an armed 16-year-old burglary suspect. Officer Derrick Bowman shot Devin Contreras as the suspect ran out the back of a store on Oct. 1.

A Travis County grand jury on Thursday no-billed Bowman, whose patrol car dashboard camera videotaped the incident.

A pistol found on Contreras was later identified as one stolen from a storage unit among more than 30 burglarized hours before the shooting.

A 19-year-old man who allegedly was with Contreras and was caught later faces trial on charges of burglary and theft of a firearm.
