American Vogue editor Anna Wintour and New York museum officials have previewed a major exhibit honoring the late Alexander McQueen. The London Fashion Week event included six of McQueen's famed outfits that will be part of the 100-piece exhibit that opens in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Wintour and Metropolitan Museum director Thomas Campbell praised McQueen on Tuesday as a fashion visionary who brought an artistic temperament and unique originality to his work.

The designer committed suicide last February shortly after the death of his mother.

The McQueen label is being carried on by Sarah Burton, the company's new creative director.
