Around 100 roosters seized in Dallas raid

DALLAS, TS

Police said cockfights were reported to be occurring in a large rundown building on a regular basis. Engaging in the act of cockfighting is a state jail felony.

Several people were detained Saturday by police, and others may face charges. Many others were released without charges because Texas animal cruelty laws do not prohibit attending cockfights.

John Goodwin of the Humane Society said officials found scores of roosters who had been brought to fight to the death with knives tied to their legs. Birds that were injured were thrown in a pile and left to slowly die.
