An inmate's brazen escape from a hospital in Galveston just added years to his prison sentence. Joshua Barnes was sentenced to nine years for his escape back in September 2009. He tied bed sheets together and used them to crawl out of a 7th floor window at UTMB-Galveston. He was on the run four days before being captured in Irving.

Barnes was already serving a 35-year sentence for seven burglaries and aggravated assault.
