Some students are headed to the hospital after a school bus wreck near Rice University. A Galena Park ISD bus with students on board hit a tree on University near Stockton around 11am. Officials on the scene say it appears the bus suffered a mechanical malfunction in the steering system. The driver lost control and the bus struck a tree.

Four students, two teachers and the bus driver were taken a nearby hospital to be checked out as a precaution.

According to GPISD spokesperson Craig Eichhorn, the students from Woodlands Acres middle school honor society were on their way to a field trip at Rice University when the accident happened.
