Pope names Houston native to Corpus Christi post

VATICAN CITY The pontiff's choice, announced Monday, is 60-year-old Monsignor William Michael Mulvey, who has been serving as diocesan administrator in Austin.

Mulvey was ordained by Pope Paul VI in 1975 to serve in the Austin diocese, where he served in several parishes in the 1970s and 1980 in Austin, Waco and Taylor.

Mulvey did post-graduate theological studies in Rome.

He replaces retiring bishop Edmond Carmody.
