End of an era today at Houston Police Department

After nearly six years as Houston's top cop, today is the last day on the job for HPD Chief Harold Hurtt. Today he officially retires and is expected to name an interim chief, who will run the department until Mayor-elect Annise Parker chooses Hurtt's replacement.

Hurtt came to HPD in March of 2004. He brought changes to HPD, including a new property room and Tasers, but Hurtt's policing initiatives often came with expensive overtime, and the mayor-elect made it clear she would start her new administration with a new chief.
