Backe headed to court for police altercation

GALVESTON, TX Backe and 13 wedding guests were arrested at the San Luis Hotel in October 2008. Witnesses say it started when officers tried to prevent the bride's brother from taking a beer into the hotel bar. When Backe and others stepped in, they say police overreacted, using batons and pepper spray, and tasering the bride's father.

Nine officers were disciplined for paperwork violations, but none for excessive force.

A grand jury refused to indict Backe and four guests on resisting arrest charges, but this coming February he and two others will be tried for interfering with a police officer and another man for public intoxication.
