One dead in robbery at dry cleaners

HOUSTON The robbery happened at the $1 Dry Cleaners near Louetta and Kuykendahl around 6:30pm Monday, about 30 minutes before the store was scheduled to close. There was a manager on duty and two females believed to be customers inside.

Sheriff's deputies say the manager saw two men approach the store and pull masks over their faces. As they entered the store, he saw the men reach into their waistbands.

"One or both of the males reached into their waistbands and started messing around with their waistbands and (the manager) fired at them, evidently striking one of them, maybe striking two," said Sgt. Larry Davis of the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Division.

Homicide investigators said one of the suspects collapsed behind the shopping center and died. The second suspect has not been found. Detectives believe he may have also been hit and are checking area hospitals. They are also checking surveillance video inside the store.
