Husband calls 911 to report wife's stabbing

PEARLAND, TX When police responded to the home on Winding Shores near Catalina Shores, they found a gruesome, bloody scene. They say the husband was covered in blood, but calm.

Neighbors in the Shadow Creek Ranch subdivision still cannot comprehend what their neighbor is accused of doing.

"I just can't believe it," said one neighbor.

Pearland police say at 4:25pm Monday afternoon, Donghai Yu, 43, called 911 from his home, saying he thought he killed his wife.

"They located Mr. Yu in the front yard with blood on him. He was detained in the front yard. Officers made entry to search for a victim and located his wife on the floor in the kitchen. She was covered in blood and had multiple stab wounds on her upper body," said Lt. Onesimo Lopez of the Pearland Police Department.

Detectives say she had been fatally stabbed at least 15 to 20 times. She was flown to Hermann Hospital by Life Flight but was pronounced dead.

Yu has been arrested and faces a murder charge.

Neighbors we talked to say the couple was quiet and they didn't know of any problems brewing in the home.

"They were like a normal family. He'd cut the grass. We'd wave to each other. It was just normal," said neighbor Letitia Plumber.

What neighbors are thinking of now is the couple's 12-year-old son, who was at school during the attack.

"It's really sad. I pray for the family, their son. My heart goes out to him because I have boys his age," said Plumber.

Police say Yu and his wife lived in the home since 2005. There was no history of any police calls to that address. Detectives are still questioning the husband and they have not released a motive for the killing.

As for the couple's 12-year-old son, we are told he is with an aunt and uncle.
