Investigators say the woman was driving southbound on 288 when she veered off the highway to the left and continued driving in the grassy median in between the north and southbound lanes of the freeway at a high rate of speed.
While still in the grass, the woman drove over the embankment of the Almeda Genoa overpass and landed below. The woman died at the scene.
Almeda-Genoa is now open after being closed down for several hours.
