Furloughs may be coming for Continental pilots

HOUSTON The airline tells us those numbers are part of the 1,700 layoffs announced two days ago. That's in addition to the previous elimination of 500 reservation agent positions and a voluntary leave of absence program for up to 700 flight attendants.

Continental says it's discussing voluntary programs, like early retirement and leaves of absence, with the union to lessen the number of pilots involuntarily forced out of the cockpit.
