He tells Playboy magazine he "didn't have any clue" what true marriage meant. He says he didn't know how to commit to his music and to his marriage at the same time. So, the marriage lost. He also says the paparazzi and attention became too intense for him and he panicked.
As for Zellweger checking the box on the legal papers that said "fraud," Chesney says they didn't have much of a choice. You could either claim physical abuse, mental abuse or three or four other things that weren't true. There was no "other" box so they agreed to "fraud."
Some people took it to mean he's gay. Chesney says he's definitely not gay.
