Cy Ridge QB Shepherd earns top AP honor

HOUSTON Cy Ridge Quarterback Russell Shepherd was 12 of 20 for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns and he carried the football 31 times for 311 yards and 3 more touchdowns. But that was typical of Russell's season. In 9 regular season games, Shepherd threw for 16 touchdowns and ran for 17. Thus, Russell has been named the Associated Press 5A offensive player of the year.

Other area kids making the 5A first team were Thaddeus Randle, defensive lineman from North Shore, Mustangs defensive back Larry Stephens and receiver Jordan Leslie from Tomball. In 4A, A.J. Dugat of Dayton and Glen Sumney of Texas City were named first team.
