Widow won't go to prison for killing husband

Kristen Dewald pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the murder of her husband, James Dewald, in their south side apartment in September of last year. The court accepted Kristen Dewald's insanity plea and officers immediately took her into custody.

Police say Kristen Dewald stabbed her husband several times with a large butcher knife. But James Dewald's father called the outcome of the case a miscarriage of justice.

"It may be legally in line with whatever the legal statutes are, but it's not justice and it's not moral," said James L. Dewald. "This young lady did commit a very heinous murder."

The court will commit Dewald to a mental institution.
