The crash happened two days ago along Smith Street, killing a 3-year-old boy. His mother is in critical condition. The boy's grandfather saw it all happen.
The Goss family is devastated. Little Conner died in that accident. His mother is in a coma and the family is grief stricken.
Supported by friends, tears overwhelm Etta Goss at moments. Her great grandson, Conner, is dead and her granddaughter, Christina,is just clinging to life.
"They're working on her, but we don't know how bad, how long before she can get up, if ever," she said. "There's just a possibility that she may be braindead."
It was just two days ago that Conner, his mother, Christina, and grandfather, Charlie Goss, were all walking along a stretch of Smith road in northeast Harris County. That's when investigators say a car driven by Silas McCann hit the trio. Investigators believe he was drunk.
"If he wouldn't have been drunk, chances are it might not have happened," said Charlie. "I prayed on it. God told me I have to forgive, but I don't have to forget."
Charlie was the least seriously hurt. Suffering a few cuts and bruises, he's spent the past two days at his daughter's hospital bedside. The death of his beloved grandson is still hard to comprehend.
"Just playing with him all day long, I was with him 24 hours a day," he said. "I can't cry no more."
And for Etta, not being able to watch her great grandson grow up has left her heartbroken.
"He was the most precious, precious angel in this world," she said. "He could never be replaced, and now all of it is taken away from me, just because of that drunk driver."
Family members say Christina is in a medically induced coma. T hey say doctors are trying to make sure the swelling in her brain goes down. She does not know her little boy died.
McCann remains in jail. He's charged with two counts of intoxication assault and one count of intoxication manslaughter.
