Citizenship granted to thousands in N. Houston

HOUSTON About 2,100 people from 120 countries took the oath of citizenship to become United States citizens Wednesday morning in north Houston. The new Americans include Russian native and Olympic diver Vera Ilyina. She competed in four summer Olympic games, winning gold in 2000 and silver in 2004.

She said, "Ever since I graduated from college I always wanted to become an American and I think it's an honor to be a citizen of this country, the greatest country in the world."

Nine members of the US military also become US citizens today.
