Authorities say that according to witnesses, two cars were racing down FM 1960, going eastbound. One of the cars went out of control, speeding into oncoming traffic. It was struck by a driver described as an elderly woman. The woman was driving a Honda Civic and when she hit the the gold Nissan, and both cars basically disintegrated.
All three people died instantly -- the woman and two male teens in the other car, ages 17 and 18. Investigators have identified the teen victims as 18-year-old Zachary Lawra and 17-year-old Phi Le. Both were students at Klein High School.
A witness took down the license plate number of the car with whom the Nissan was allegedly racing. Authorities found that driver and questioned him at the scene for a few hours. He is reportedly an 18-year-old out-of-state college student who lives in the area. He admitted to being in the vicinity and witnessing the accident, but nothing more than that. Deputies plan to see if witnesses can identify him.
