Guard opens fire on suspect

HOUSTON At 4:15am, Saturday, October 11, the suspect entered the Walgreens Pharmacy at 4841 East Mount Houston Road and approached the counter with a pistol in hand, demanding that the employee at the counter get on the floor. An armed Brookside Village police officer working an approved off-duty job as a security guard inside the store saw the suspect and drew his weapon and fired, missing as the suspect fled.

The officer followed the suspect out the door. The suspect fired at the officer from a fleeing vehicle, also missing. The officer returned fire at the fleeing vehicle. The officer was not injured, but it is unknown if anyone in the fleeing vehicle was hit.

The armed suspect is described as a black male, 5'6" to 5'8" tall, about 180 pounds. He was wearing a long-sleeved black shirt, black pants and black shoes. He had his face covered with a white bandana. He was accompanied by a black female, but there was no detailed description given of that female suspect. The two fled in what was described as a light-colored four-door compact vehicle.
