Deputy killed in crash to be laid to rest

HOUSTON The funeral coincides with the first court appearance for the man charged in his death. Jose Vieyra, who is charged with criminal negligent homicide, is set to be in court this morning. The U.S. immigration office also has a hold him and he could be deported if his status isn't determined.

According to court documents, it was last week when Vieyra was driving a box truck and cut across three lanes of traffic after pulling out from the driveway of a car dealership on the Katy Freeway. According to witnesses, Vieyra cut off Deputy Craig Miller.

Miller's SUV ran into the truck and then flipped several times before landing on the concrete divider. He died instantly. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Services for Deputy Miller will be at the Second Baptist Church, West Campus, at 2pm.
