Leroy Benavidez with the Houston Police Department said, "A couple of people looked out the window and they saw another young black male walking in the motel parking lot."
Police found the victim inside one of the motel rooms.
It's not clear if the man spotted was involved in the shooting or just a witness. The suspect remains at large.
