Bizarre wreck kills one in Pasadena

PASADENA, TX (KTRK) Shortly before 1pm, the driver of a flatbed truck on Red Bluff en route to an area refinery tried to drive under a railroad trestle near Witter. The equipment the truck was hauling was too large to pass beneath the trestle and it fell off the truck, crushing the driver's side of an oncoming SUV.

"When the vessel came off of the trailer, it struck the SUV," explained Vance Mitchell with the Pasadena Police Department. "The SUV had one female inside the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene."

Police say the SUV was coming from the opposite direction and the driver had no time to react.

The woman's name has not been released. Police say it's too early to determine if the truck driver could be cited or face any criminal charges.
