HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A car theft suspect is in custody after being accused of escaping from law enforcement during a traffic stop in Northeast Harris County on Friday.

Law enforcement says the pursuit started along Wilson Road and Will Clayton Parkway when they read the car's plate as stolen.

The suspect eventually crashed out in a neighborhood near Old Humble Road before taking off on foot.

The Humble Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff's Office were on the scene.

Deputies say the man was caught in a nearby gas station parking lot around 4 p.m.

Someone who works nearby told ABC13 that the man had to be tackled because he continued trying to evade authorities.

There was also a woman in the vehicle throughout the initial pursuit and crash, but she was eventually released, according to law enforcement.

ABC13 was told she did not leave the scene of the crash.

Charges are currently pending against the suspect.

Additionally, Humble ISD told ABC13 that Fall Creek Elementary had to be secured as a result of this pursuit, but it was never placed on lockdown and dismissal proceeded as usual.
