It happened around 11pm on Bingle near Emnora.
Police say the pair was riding with a group of motorcycle riders when their motorcycle hit a curb and lost control. Neither victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The man died at the scene. His female passenger was taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery. She is expected to survive.
The victim hasn't been identified.
