Former Harris County Sheriff's deputy sentenced to nearly four years in prison for scheme to rob drugs from dealers

HOUSTON

A federal judge in Houston on Monday sentenced 45-year-old Richard Bryan Nutt Jr.

Nutt was arrested in late 2010 during an undercover operation by Houston police and the FBI. He pleaded guilty in February 2011 to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by extortion.

Investigators say Nutt conspired to use his law enforcement position to steal loads and split the proceeds after the drugs were sold by several co-defendants. Prosecutors say others involved in the scheme have all pleaded guilty and also received prison terms.

Nutt remains free on bond until a date to be determined when he must surrender to begin serving his 46-month prison term.
