Wrecker drivers help stop robbery suspects in northwest Harris County

HOUSTON

It happened at around 1:30am at the McDonalds on West Mount Houston near Veterans Memorial.

Investigators say one man tried to force his way inside through the drive-thru window, but it was locked. He then tried the doors around the building and found one ajar. He ran inside and demanded the manager open the safe.

As the manager dealt with the suspect, other employees ran outside and called 911.

Deputies say a wrecker driver heard the dispatch broadcast and saw the suspect running from the McDonalds. He followed him, watching him get into a car with another suspect.

Both suspects got out and ran away. One of them was caught nearby, knocking on doors and telling residents he had been carjacked.

The second suspect was caught about 30 minutes later after he was spotted by a second wrecker driver who recognized the man by his description. He was ducking behind cars on West Mount Houston when he was taken into custody, officials said.

No one was injured. Deputies said money and a pistol were recovered.
